Commentary:
Layout: The layout of the West Course is a nice walk-able 9 (as jet-lagged and hung over as I was we agreed on 9…, but none of us had it in us to go 18 on the Old Foss Course). Nothing too ambitious for the design, but not boring either.
Conditions: The courses I tend to play, at least lately, are meticulously manicured. Compared to that, I’d give this a 4 or 5, but I’ve read / heard that UK golf tends to be less finicky about such things. So maybe there should be a bit of cultural compensation? But, for the courses I’ve played I’d give it a 4’ish. Not a cow pasture (cough, the Old Course, cough), but also not super manicured. But, for Fall season golf, right in the meaty middle.
The Staff: Since Steve bought my round, I only had a quick interaction with the #19 bartender. Pleasant. So, no points off no points given. Just a good average interaction.
Value: At $0 (ha!) for a walking round with some great company, I’d come play this often! But, even at the regular rate of £11.00 for 9, this is still a huge value!
I did not play very well at all and I didn’t even bother to load my golf app given my, umm, state. I had a fantastic time playing with Steve, Macca, and ….I’m blanking on our fourth at this point, again, see my comments about jet-lag and being hung over (though, he was lovely as well!). I loved yelling at my ball in the UK and sitting at #19 with the lads for a beer or two with some proper English crisps. Thanks you three! Please, let’s do it again soon!
