We are dodging the Wasatch winter for three high-octane days in the Arizona sun. No wasted travel days. We take the earliest flight out of SLC, drive straight to the dramatic cliffs of Quintero to tee off by noon, hammer 36 holes on Sunday (including TPC Scottsdale's stadium setup), and wrap with the classic desert target golf of Troon North on Monday.
The Hardware
We are playing a 3-day cumulative Modified Stableford to keep things light. The winner takes home The Saguaro Cup—a highly unnecessary, yet-to-be-determined piece of custom hardware. No cash games, no penalties for a blown-up hole, just pure unadulterated bragging rights for the entire year.
07:00 AM: Board Delta non-stop out of SLC. Wheels down at PHX by 8:50 AM. Pick up the SUV, grab coffee, and drive 50 mins northwest to Lake Pleasant and Peoria.
12:00 PM: Quintero Golf Club. Hit the course we are most excited about while everyone is still fresh. Ranked repeatedly as the #1 public course in Arizona. Rees Jones carved this masterpiece into raw, undisturbed desert canyons. Massive cliff-drop par 3s. Zero residential homes.
Evening: Check in to the Old Town Scottsdale Airbnb, fire up the grill, unpack, and grab steaks.
07:45 AM: TPC Scottsdale (Stadium Course). The WM Phoenix Open wrapped only 7 days prior. The crowds are gone, but the three-story stadium architecture encircling the 16th "Coliseum" green is still standing tall. Tee off into an empty colosseum.
12:45 PM Transition: Quick lunch at the clubhouse, followed by a breezy 8-minute drive across North Scottsdale.
01:30 PM: Grayhawk Golf Club (Raptor Course). Generous fairways framed by ironwood and paloverde trees with slick, undulating multi-tier greens.
08:30 AM: Check out of the Airbnb, load the SUV, and make the quick drive up to North Scottsdale.
10:00 AM: Troon North (Monument Course). The gold standard of Scottsdale desert target golf. Huge granite boulders, giant saguaros, and flawless bentgrass greens beneath Pinnacle Peak.
03:30 PM: Tally up the Saguaro Cup scores on the patio, then head south to Sky Harbor.
07:15 PM Delta Nonstop (PHX → SLC): Wheels up. Back on the ground in Salt Lake City before 9:30 PM.
